Power of Flight: Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé Aviator

Rolls-Royce has rolled out its latest beauty: the Phantom Coupé Aviator, an aviation-inspired automobile that celebrates the daredevil spirit of Charles Stewart Rolls, the British company's founder.

The first in the collection of 35 Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection models, all of which boast exclusive design elements, color combos and new materials, was unveiled last week at the Pebble Beach Quail showcase in the United States.

Finished in Aviator Grey, the Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection features a contrasting matte bonnet, window and grille. Venture into the cabin and you'll find cockpit-themed accents, such as a striking Thommen aviation-grade clock with scarlet needle tips embedded in the metal upper fascia, complemented by matt black dials for power reserve, speedometer and fuel gauges.

Meanwhile, the lower fascia is veneered over in hand-crafted mahogany, in the fashion of the early record-setting propellers. Polished stainless steel veneer ‘onlays’ with nifty bullet-shaped ends match the floor mat fixings.

Another cool highlight: an embossed Charles Rolls quote in the leather-line glove compartment, which describes Rolls' elation following his first flight with the Wright brothers in 1908: “The power of flight is as a fresh gift from the Creator, the greatest treasure yet given to man.” Also noteworthy are the beautifully sleek cup holders, which are wrought in gleaming aluminium.

Commenting on the swanky new model, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said: “Our founding forefather Charles Stewart Rolls was a pioneer who pushed the boundaries of motoring and aviation to the limit. With our exclusive Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection we celebrate this great British hero, presenting a car which hints at experiments in early flight married to the best engineering, modern design and exquisitely crafted materials. The collection takes Rolls-Royce Bespoke to new levels of subtle, yet beautiful detailing.”
