    Palet, Passpo's newly formed sister group, are officially making their CD debut this September 10th, with their mini album titled Hello, Palet. Since I really like Passpo, I really have high expectations for these girls. I wonder what type of idols they will become.

  • UPDATED: Takahashi Minami's Solo Debut + Other Topics

    Takahashi Minami (AKB48) will have a solo debut under Universal Music.  It was announced via VTR on the second day of the Tokyo Dome Concert.  After a duet with Maeda Atsuko, a song from 1830m, Maeda said she had a present for her.  The VTR announcement was done by Max Hall, Universal Music  International chief operating officer.  No details as to when and what type of single she will release.  It is important to note that Universal Music is an international company.  Perfume, who has been pushing their global presence, has recently moved to Universal Music.  K-Pop groups like SNSD have also been releasing internationally under the same label.  (I don't think she will debut in the States because of her poor English, but they may release her singles onto the US' iTunes.)  Takahashi is one of the founding members of AKB48, and one of their first aces.  She was the center for their first indie single.  She is considered to be one of the stronger vocalists in AKB48.  She was also named the group's General Manager on the first day of the three-day concert series.  Congrats!  [Curious about her singing, check out some performances after the jump.]      
           
    I saw this Berryz Koubou confession scrolling down the AKB48 tag on Tumblr, and it ha! s been bothering me ever since.  I adore Berryz Koubou even though I don't always love their music.  I was irritated by the fact that this person believes Berryz Koubou deserves more awards, possibly because of how long they've been active.  (He or she might be saying that for nine years they've only received three, but the way they phrased it sounds like how long they've been active warrants more.)  My response:  How long a musical group, idol or not, is active does not matter.  What matters is their critical work or social relevance.  AKB48 would of not earned those awards if they had not become hugely popular.  You can argue whether SMAP is talented or how critically good their music is, but you can not deny their longevity in popular culture.  Berryz Koubou has not warranted more awards because they are not a social phenomenon like SMAP or AKB48, nor are they releasing critically good music.  I'm sorry if you don't like it, but it is the truth.  But yes, for a female idol group that doesn't change their line-up they have lasted a long time.

    It is a solid single, not their best though.  I've decided I like the new election format because the coupling songs are pretty strong.  Here is my ranking:

    I wasn't really inspired to write a full review for the PVs nor the single itself.
  • Suzy Explains Her Kiss With Gagman
    Miss A's Suzy clarifies her kiss with comedian Kim Joon Hyun.
    On August 27, Suzy posted on her twitter with "I thought my ears were going to explode from all the clatter. That's why I was very shocked! Our lips (really) didn't touch!"
    Suzy further wrote, "It was a good experience. GagConcert daebak! Life Discovery daebak! Gagman oppas and gagman unnis are awesome." (side note: Life Discovery is a segment on GagConcert)
    Suzy appeared as a surprise guest on KBS "GagConcert," which was broadcasted on August 26. Kim Joon Hyun cosplayed singer Seo Taeji and acted as Suzy's first love.
    The two tried to verify their love with a kiss. Gagman Kim Gi Ri struck Kim Joo Hyun's head at this time. This surprised Suzy and she slightly moved her head, making it seem like they've actually locked lips.

    miss A's Suzy made a guest appearance on KBS's 'Gag Concert – Discoveries of Life'. Comedian Song Jun Geun and Suzy transformed into the 'Introduction to Architecture' movie couple.
    Soung Jun Geun brought much laughter to the audience when he commented during the show, "Thank you so much PD's, is this a dream or reality?"
    The dreamlike show came to a conclusion when Suzy confessed to Song Jun Geun that they should break up.
    Suzy called out her first love "Taiji Oppa" in reference to legendary Korean musician Seo Taiji. Comedian Kim Jun Hyun came out and said, "Let's show them our love for one another". As Suzy closed her eyes and pouted her lips, Kim Jun Hyun slowly leaned in causing the audience to squeal.
    But the unexpected happened as Kim Jun Hyun got hit in the back of his head causing both lips to interlock and immediately afterwards Suzy screamed because of the surprise kiss.

    After releasing the Japanese PV for "Phoenix" the boys has finally released the Korean MV for "Phoenix".
    In related news August 25th KST, ZE:A's Kwanghee celebrated his 25th birthday (Korean age) with the many gifts sent in by fans as well as the birthday wishes sent to him by his members.
    In the MV the boys showcase powerful and charismatic choreography.

    Psy, who is currently on a daebak roll with the worldwide popularity of 'Gangnam Style', is raising the bar on his income with several new CF deals!
    Officials estimate that the income received from his 'Gangnam Style' promotions alone could amount to about $10 million USD. The income received per CF endorsement is said to be in the $400,000 USD range, and he's currently in the process of signing about 10 of them!
    Not only that, but he also has a considerable income flow from his actual music sales, recording at $360,000 USD in downloads, $360,000 USD in album sales, and $42,000 USD in streams.
    His 'Summer Stand' concert which was held on August 11th brought in an additional $3 million USD.
    All of this combined with his attendance at events, international sales, and copyright compensation brings his grand total to well over $10 million USD.
    Netizens joked that Psy could now actually buy property in Gangnam with the money he has made from 'Gangnam Style'!

  • SECRET's Hyosung impresses with her overall slim figure
    SECRET's Hyosung has not only lost the baby fat in her face but has transformed her overall figure.
    On August 27th, a picture above with the caption, "Hyosung, transformed with luxurious legs" was shared on a portal site.
    The revealed picture showed all four of SECRET members flaunting their unique charms each in different outfits. Hyosung recently gained attention for losing weight in her face, but the picture showed that she has transformed her whole figure. She was known for her voluptuous legs in the past, but the picture showed Hyosung flaunting her slim legs. She must have worked on her diet for the comeback since she looked slim even compared to Ji Eun who is standing next to her.
    After seeing the picture, the netizens commented things like, "Hyosung changed so much", "Her chubby look was cute…", and "She dieted doggedly for the comeback."

  • Taiwan prosecutor Dai Dong Li calls Li Zongrui 'sick and a sexual pervert'

    The disgraced Taiwanese heir was prosecuted after surrendering to the police
     Li Zongrui ended his 23 days on the run when he surrendered to the police last Friday. He has maintained that the 60 videos, involving 31 women, were filmed with their full knowledge and consent.
    However, investigations have revealed that 14 of the women were unconscious during the sexual acts and six others were heavily intoxicated and had shouted "no" when the videos were filmed.
    A 17-second clip was recently leaked onto the Internet and it was noted that the filming angle had changed during the course of the video, leading to suspicions that someone else was present when the acts were being committed.
    Zongrui has commented on the girls involved in the videos, "Some of them came to me on their own and some of them were paid to (sleep with me)."
    His lawyers have also claimed that women, especially Japanese, as part of the sexual act, would vocally protest and "say no" during intercourse.
    Prosecutor Dai Dong Li lashed out at his lawyers, remarking, "Is there a need for you to be so perverted?" and asked for Zongrui to be sent for psychiatric help, calling him "sick and a sexual pervert".
