Gordon Liu’s wife denies fighting for family fortune

Hong Kong martial arts actor Gordon Liu was a staple on period dramas, with more than 30 dramas and films under his belt. The 57-year-old was forced to exit the industry after a fall last August led to a stroke, which left him paralyzed in the lower half of his body.

Last month, reports surfaced that his second wife, who hails from Thailand, was teaching his son and daughter how to fight for the lion's share of the family's assets, including properties worth HK$ 7.5 million (S$ 1.5 million).

In order to refute the rumours, the low profile Mrs Liu and her son, Xian Junlong, granted an interview to the Thai media recently. She shared that she had gotten to know Gordon through a mutual friend. They wed in 1991 and have a son and daughter.

She expressed that she found out that she was incompatible with Gordon after giving birth to their daughter and thought of a divorce. However, after considering her children's well-being, she decided to hold on and only mentioned separating after her son went to Singapore to pursue his studies. Mrs Liu then went back to Thailand to live on her own in 2009.

When she asked Gordon's lawyers if the divorce procedures had been completed, she was informed that he had changed his legal consultants, leading to the matter being unresolved.

After Gordon suffered from a stroke last year, Mrs Liu claimed that she returned to Hong Kong immediately to care for him and stressed that she has never once thought of fighting for the family fortune. She emphasised that her reason for granting the interview was to find a way for her son and daughter to see Gordon, sharing that there have been people who have stopped them from doing so.

Junlong then shared that he had returned to Hong Kong in November last year to care for his father up till March this year when his mother's request for his father to be moved to Thailand for treatment was rejected.

After that, he claims that they have not seen Gordon and only found out that he had been admitted to a home for the aged through news reports. He then expressed that he was stopped by nurses when he attempted to visit his father. He emphasised that he only wishes to reunite with his father and ask after his health, stressing that he does not wish for anything else.
