A video titled 'Surprise engagement proposal' rumoured to cost over £1m (S$ 2 million) began circulating online recently, piquing the interest of many netizens. They were surprised when the leading lady in the video was revealed to be none other than Elva Hsiao, with Malaysian tycoon Liu Dezu making the proposal.

The five-minute long clip was set on the picturesque beach of Atlantis, The Palm Hotel & Resort in Dubai. The $ 56.5 billion resort is frequented by the rich and famous.

In the video, Elva was seen being escorted to the venue by Dezu. There, a dinner table was set up; with candles arranged in a huge heart shape on the beach. When the couple arrived at the venue, musicians started playing the harp and violin and two men in suits parachuted to the venue to present jewellery to her.

Elva was seen covering her face is shock and she even wiped a tear from her eyes as she appeared moved by the grand gesture. The finale came when a display of fireworks shot into the night sky.

Elva and Dezu were reportedly introduced to each other by a mutual friend. The two attended a good friend's wedding in Dubai, where he had the opportunity to present her with the romantic surprise.

Elva's management has expressed that she treats Dezu as a younger brother and has graciously turned down the proposal, whereas he has expressed through his spokesperson that it was not a proposal but a romantic dinner.
