North American rights to Japanese comedy action film Dead Sushi (デッド寿司, pictured) have been acquired by Action Slate Releasing and Millennium Entertainment.
The film, which stars martial arts prodigy Takeda Rina, is the first movie to emerge from Walker Pictures, the new producing and distribution offshoot of veteran Japanese talent agency Office Walker.
The film previously screened at the Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival in July and had its North American premiere this week at Fantastic Fest (20-27 Sep), where the rights deal was announced.
Dead Sushi was co-produced by Nishimura Eizo and was directed by Iguchi Noboru (井口昇).
Action Slate is the US and Canada releasing arm of international film sales and production company Birch Tree Entertainment. Its recent releases of Asian titles include Thai horror Laddaland, and High Kick Girl, which also starred Takeda. Millennium, which is next releasing Cannes competition film The Paperboy, recently acquired rights to What Maisie Knew by directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel.
