Goldie Hawn thought Kurt Russell was ''too young'' for her to date when she first met him.
The 66-year-old actress first met her long-term partner on the set of 1968 film 'The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band' and while she liked him a lot, she thought the five-year age gap was too big.
However, they were cast together in 1983 movie 'Swing Shift' and their romance blossomed from there, even though both of them didn't want to get involved with another actor.
Goldie - who had two children, Kate and Oliver, from her marriage to Bill Hudson when she got together with Kurt - said: ''I was 21 and he was 16 and I thought he was adorable but he was much too young. And then years later we met up again and I liked him and I remembered that I had liked him very much when I first met him. But we both said we would never go out with another actor so it just shows you never can tell.''
Although they have never married, Goldie and Kurt - who have a 26-year-old son, Wyatt, together - are still going strong and the 'Private Benjamin' star says it's down to the fact they both work hard at their relationship.
Speaking on 'Desert Island Discs' on UK station Radio 4, she said: ''We've been together for 29 years now and I think if two people want to make it work, you make it work but if one doesn't, then you're sunk.
''I don't know if it's been hard work, but that's all I wanted out of life - a good relationship, a healthy family of mind and body and I feel very honoured that this happened. But you do have to put your time in.''

Emma Watson had a misguided opinion of what love should feel like, believing that romances should be intense and ultimately painful.
Emma Watson always thought love had to be tragic and painful.
The 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' actress has been dating Will Adamowicz for almost a year and she says it was a revelation to her to discover being in love didn't have to be an emotional roller-coaster.
She said: ''When I started dating I had this kind of 'Romeo and Juliet', fateful romantic idea about love which was almost that you were a victim and there was a lot of pain involved and that was how it should be.
''Shakespeare said the course of true love never did run smooth, and I had this sense that it had to be painful. It was such a revelation in 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' to realise that it shouldn't be that way and that you get to choose who you love and who you decide to give your heart to.
''It sounds like a cliche but I also learnt that you're not going to fall for the right person until you really love yourself and feel good about how you are. Well, that was revelatory to me.''
The 22-year-old screen beauty - who shot to fame as a child star in the 'Harry Potter' movies - has had an interesting life so far and varied successes with her dating decisions, but she doesn't regret anything that has happened to her.
Emma - who has previously dated actor Johnny Simmons, rocker George Craig and financier Joel Barrymore - told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: ''Everything is a journey and the sad thing is you only learn from experience, so as much as someone can tell you things, you have to go out there and make your own mistakes in order to learn.''

The burlesque dancer - who was famously married to goth-rocker Marilyn Manson - is dating a lot of different men at the moment as there's no one serious in her life and she's enjoying playing the field.
Dita - who was recently linked to Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft - exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''I'm dating lots of different men at the moment! Boyfriend is a very strong word. I'm dating several charming men.
''I'm single and loving the freedom of being single and dating. It's an exciting time. I've been in a lot of big relationships and I haven't spent much time being single so I figured it's a great time to be free and be without commitment.''
Despite her current carefree attitude to dating, Dita, 40, would like to get married again in the future because she makes such a good housewife.
Dita - who has teamed up with Cointreau to design a new evening bag - added: ''Yeah (I'd like to get married again). I mean I was a good housewife. I cook, I make delicious cocktails. My friends always say, 'Wow you're gonna make a great housewife again,' and I'm like, 'I know.' ''
The My Cointreau Evening bag designed by Cointreau ambassador Dita Von Teese will be available exclusively from Selfridges from 1st October, RRP £559.

Arnold Schwarzenegger admits having an affair with his housekeeper was the ''stupidest thing'' he ever did in his marriage.
The 'Expendables 2' star accepts he caused great pain to his now estranged wife Maria Shriver and their four children with his illicit romance, which led to Mildred Beana giving birth to his son Joseph 14 years ago.
He said in an episode of '60 Minutes' airing on Sunday (30.9.12): ''I think it was the stupidest thing I've done in the whole relationship. It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids.''
The former Governor of California is currently promoting his autobiography, 'Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story' and though he says Maria hasn't read the tell-all tome, she wishes him the best.
He said: ''I think that Maria is, you know, wishing me well in everything I do.''
Mildred - who worked for Arnold's family for 20 years - had listed her ex-husband's name on Joseph's birth certificate and has previously said she only knew for certain who the boy's father was when he began to look increasingly like the actor.
The affair was only revealed in May last year, days after Arnold and Maria announced they were separating after 25 years of marriage.

Justin Timberlake loves hosting dinner parties.
The 31-year-old actor enjoys throwing lavish barbecues and cooking meals for his friends and says the secret to being the perfect host is to offer guests an abundant supply of booze.
Justin told food blog Bon Appetit: ''The key to good hosting is to make sure everyone has enough to eat - and booze on. In my house, we tend to host Sunday barbecues, which is convenient in football season. Everybody can do chips and dips.''
The Hollywood hunk also revealed he enjoys hosting themed dinners and keeps things fun by organising games and getting guests to dress up, but said that with all the alcohol available at his parties, everyone is often left hungry.
Justin - who is engaged to Jessica Biel - explained: ''If you're hosting people, you want them to feel like they're in their own home. I don't like things to be too formal.
''I've hosted Halloween murder mystery dinners where people had to search through the house for clues. We did one that was Prohibition era-themed. The girls showed up as flappers and the guys showed up in waistcoats and pinstripes.
''At some point, people will drink enough to be hungry, so you need enough food. I've hosted parties where I'll have an In-and-Out (burger) truck show up later on in the evening. You know everyone will be hungry again.''

Pete Townshend thought about taking his own life when he was arrested in January 2003 and accused of being a paedophile for accessing a website which had child pornography on it.
Pete Townshend considered committing suicide after he was accused of being a paedophile.
The Who guitarist went through a terrible ordeal in 2003 when he was arrested in January 2003 as part of a police crackdown known as Operation Ore on a child pornography website and subsequently had his home searched for illegal materials.
They found nothing incriminating at his house or on his computers, but he admitted he had once paid a $7 charge on an internet site with a button which read ''click here for child pornography'' in 1999 when conducting online research about child abuse for the band's Double-O charity.
He had immediately cancelled the charge, but the resulting media storm and police caution for accessing the website left him feeling suicidal.
In his new book, 'Who I Am', Pete writes: ''If I'd had a gun, I would have shot myself, just to escape the lynching.''
The 'My Generation' musician could have gone to court to clear his name, but instead remained silent, which confused many people.
He added to The Times newspaper: ''I think I was exhausted. The police gave me half an hour to make a decision about whether to go to court or not. My lawyers were as surprised as I was, because everyone thought I would be let off. And I thought if it went to court, they would f***ing rip me apart. They'll just rip me apart.''
The 67-year-old star's remaining living bandmate, Roger Daltrey has always stood by him, as has his partner Rachel Fuller and his three children, but at the time Pete thought his whole life would cave in.
He added: ''A journalist came to the door and I told him, 'I'm f***ed.' He said, 'No, you'll be alright.' 'How?' it was the subject of the day and it really did feel like a lynching, because there was no sense of 'the truth will out'. I've had the misfortune to read online that I'm a paedophile because I've got a big nose.''
Pete also says his desire to help victims of sexual abuse stems from an incident when he used to live with his grandmother Denny, who was a woman of questionable moral value - when he was a child.
He added: ''She wouldn't let me have a lock on the door, which was terrifying. She had one guy that looked like Adolf Hitler, with a little moustache, his hair brushed to the side and a withered arm. He would sit me on his lap and I had to call him uncle. I don't want to say I was sexually abused just because it's convenient to explain why I'm so ... complicated, but I also don't want to deny that what feels to me happened, did happen. Not that I was brutally raped, but something very creepy was going on.''

The 'Almost Famous' actress' fiance Matt Bellamy is enjoying watching their toddler Bingham develop and while he is already showing signs of following in his Muse rocker dad's musical footsteps, the 'Survival' singer thinks he is more like his mother.
Matt said: ''[Going on the road] will be hard as Bing is 15 months now and at the age where his personality is starting to come through.
''He loves music and banging on the piano. He has Kate's personality. He's so funny.''
Matt also revealed that Kate and Bingham will be joining him on tour, as will Ryder, the actress' eight-year-old son from her marriage to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.
He added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: ''We manage it all pretty well. Kate's looking forward to coming on tour with the kids. Ryder is eight now and it will be cool to have them on tour.
''[Bandmate] Chris [Wolstenholme] has his own tour bus for his six kids. It will be great when we have all the kids on tour.''

Janet Jackson and her fiance Wissam al Mana are reportedly planning a $20 million wedding.
The couple hope to tie the knot in Doha in Qatar where the billionaire was born and are making arrangements for the ceremony to take place in 2013.
According to an insider the wedding will be ''one of the biggest, most memorable extravaganzas in recent history''.
The source added to National Enquirer magazine: ''They have tentatively set a late 2013 wedding date. But they are still working out the details and the exact day.''
They will reportedly spend $3 million to fly in their 500 wedding guests from all over the world, while Wissam wants to give all attendees a $10,000 Rolex watch each as a thank you for attending.
The insider added: ''Wissam is going to splash big when he marries Janet. It's going to be the wedding of the century.''
Janet has been dating Wissam - who is almost a decade younger than her - since summer 2010.
The 46-year-old singer - the sister of the late Michael Jackson - has previously insisted there is nothing wrong with dating younger men as long as the couple are happy.
Janet - who was in a seven-year relationship with music producer Jermaine Dupri - said: ''My mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us - my sisters, my brothers - we'll just tell you our ages because it's all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself. It doesn't matter.''

Emma - who has been famous since she was 10 after starring in the 'Harry Potter' movies - also spoke about how she used to feel isolated when she was growing up because she felt different to her peers.
She is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: ''It made me aware my life has been very different and unusual, my life has almost been done backwards. There are certain parts of my development that are happening at certain times and in different orders and at times that felt lonely. But, overall, I feel privileged to have had so many different experiences.''

Lindsay Lohan relates to Elizabeth Taylor.
The 26-year-old actress plays the late screen icon in upcoming TV movie 'Liz & Dick' and she claims she found it easy to play the character because she can identify with the high-profile lifestyle Elizabeth led because she is used to dealing with the ''stress'' of being constantly scrutinized.
Speaking in an interview with Lifetime - who will air the movie - Lindsay said: ''I'm a huge Elizabeth Taylor fan, and I relate to her on a lot of levels - living in the public eye, dealing with the stress of what other people say, whether it's true or not.''
The flame-haired star is infamous for her wild antics, drug and alcohol use and jail stints, while 'Cleopatra' star Elizabeth is remembered for her tumultuous love life and eight marriages.
Lindsay feels the two are kindred spirits because of their tumultuous lives.
The star mused: ''I personally understand Liz, because you're living your life for everyone to see, and people are growing with you.
''You get to a point where you become numb to it, and you just live your life the way you feel you need to live it.''
Grant Bowler - who plays Richard Burton, who was married to Elizabeth twice, in the film - can also see the similarities between his co-star and the late Hollywood legend, who died in March 2011.
He quipped: ''She's pretty much Elizabeth Taylor reincarnated.''

The 26-year-old pop star was slammed for recently putting on 25lbs but Kirstie - who has struggled with her own weight in the past - says the 'Toxic' hitmaker was so skinny that gaining a few curves can only be a good thing.
She told PEOPLE magazine: ''With [Lady Gaga], she gains [25] pounds and it becomes this huge thing.
''She was so freaking skinny that [25] pounds would make her a what, size two? There's an insanity here. I know it's a pressure on her. I know it is. It's really hard to play that game.''
Kirstie isn't the only one who thinks Gaga looks better since her weight gain, the 'Born This Way' singer recently said she's happier than ever with her body, especially because partner Taylor Kinney is a huge fan of her new fuller figure.
Writing on her blog, she said: ''My boyfriend prefers me curvier.
''When I eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks. I'm happy. Happier than I've ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny. This is who I am. And I am proud at any size.''

John Travolta has been cleared of accusations he ruined an author's reputation.
Robert Randolph wrote 'You'll Never Spa In This Town Again', in which he made claims the 'Pulp Fiction' actor enjoyed gay sexual relations in Los Angeles' City Spa in the 1990s but then claimed John and his lawyer Marty Singer had falsely accused him of having serious mental problems to try and make him out to be an unreliable source.
However, a judge has thrown out his lawsuit against John and Mr. Singer, ruling a letter in which they made the accusations was a legitimate part of the legal dispute and so they cannot be prosecuted for it, according to TMZ.
Both John and Marty have previously issued statements branding the lawsuit ''ridiculous.''
A representative for the 'Hairspray' star said: ''The lawsuit filed by Robert Randolph is absurd. The suit is based on a privileged communication, and it will promptly be thrown out by the court.
''To evaluate the credibility of Robert Randolph and his ridiculous lawsuit one need look no further than his own statements published on his website stating that he sustained 'permanent brain damage' and had to 'retrain' his brain.''
Marty echoed the claims, saying: ''We intend to sue the attorneys for malicious prosecution after the court promptly dismisses this baseless lawsuit.''
John - who is married to actress Kelly Preston - has been dogged by a number of claims of sexual misconduct, some of which have since been retracted, from a number of male masseurs since the publication of 'You'll Never Spa In This Town Again'.

The 'Firework' singer - who dated the 'Sons of Anarchy' star for 18 months until early 2007 - is believed to have been partly inspired by her former partner throughout her career, but knew she had to break up with him at the time because he was a troubled soul.
A source told USMagazine.com: "She is devastated. She had to separate from him to get ahead and focus on her career. He was in trouble then and she couldn't help him. A lot of her songs were partially inspired by him.
"I know 'The One That Got Away' and 'Circle the Drain' are partly about him, as well as Travis McCoy. But she was young and it was a time in her life she cherishes."
Johnny is believed to have killed himself by leaping off his home after beating his 81-year-old landlady to death.
Police discovered the upstairs of the building had been ransacked and a cat had been killed.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said: "It's a terrible tragedy as far as we're concerned and we're digging into the bottom of it.
"He appeared to have died from some type of fall, either from the stairway, or from the balcony, or from one of the roofs.

''I have always wanted a white Persian cat with light eyes. That was my thing. I've been always looking at kittens like that online.''

She told People.com: ''My mother actually helped me come up with that name. It's a song of my boyfriend's, so I thought it was cute. I just thought it was a cute name and it fit her.''
