- Kenneth Ma Surrounded by Rumors Natalie Tong, Eliza Sam, Rebecca Zhu Yesterday Kenneth Ma and Fala Chen attended the press conference for Miss Chinese International Pageant 2013. It was rumored Kenneth have been in a secret relationship with his 'god sister' Natalie Tong for 3 months. Kenneth thought the rumor was really funny: "I just think of it as series promotion. Natalie called and asked me, 'We've dated for 3 months?' I want to thank the magazines for putting me on the headlines, but this wasn't exclusive news, many other newspapers took pictures of Natalie and I eating at Jazz Lam's restaurant. Of course Natalie is a good girl, but I'm not sure who she has a relationship with, I rarely ask about her love life."
Kenneth then exposed his next rumor is going to be Eliza Sam, "Since we finished shooting Triumph in the Skies II, recently we went BBQing at the director's house during the Lunar New Year holiday. It was just catching up with colleagues and I don't have a car to take her home or anything. Perhaps the media got photos of us together. Yesterday a reporter asked me about how I feel about Eliza, I answered she's a very good girl! You all are even more concerned about my love life than my mother."
Reporters contacted Eliza Sam yesterday, she expressed the day of the BBQ wasn't Valentine's Day. When asked how she feels about Kenneth? She said: "Hahaha, he's a very nice and good person. (Any chance of developing further?) Didn't think about it, I heard a lot of girls think he's a 'suen poon', but I just came back from overseas and I'm not sure of his background. No way? It's my turn now? (referring to rumors) Honestly, it's not a problem, when I entered the industry, I was already prepared for rumors."
Kenneth's rumored girlfriend Rebecca Zhu, was asked what she thought of Kenneth and Eliza as a couple? She said over the phone: "Ask them. (Jealous?) Why? I don't even have the time because of work. I haven't seen him (Kenneth) in a while, but I did send him Lunar New Year blessings via SMS. He's a very filial and good person, a 'suen! poon'! (Develop further?) Leave it to fate."
As for 2005 MCI second runner-up Fala Chen, this year she'll be serving as one of the judges. She laughed: "Just in a blink of an eye and I'm a See Jeh (senior). This time, I'm in control of [the contestants] life or death! So much pressure!" Contestant #9 Jacky Cai from Melbourne physical appearance resembles actress Alice Chan. Jacky also got the first award "The Media's Most Popular Contestant". She said: "I look a little like Alice and there are others who say I look like Oscar Leung. They are both beautiful and handsome people." Hong Kong representative #5 Carat Cheung hopes to leave a deep impression on viewers.
The MCI 2013 final is held this Sunday, February 24th. Besides the announcement of the winner, first and second runner-ups, this year there will also be a new award entitled "The Star of Tomorrow". That night the MCs are Eric Tsang, Sammy Leung and Sharon Chan.
- Yang Mi,Hawick Lau cute on the set of "Bright Midsummer Day"
Unwilling to be pwned by Yang Mi in all aspects of their careers, Hawick Lau takes up producing to catch up.
Real-life couple Yang Mi and Hawick Lau stars in their first modern drama together, Bright Midsummer Day 盛夏晚晴天, and shows their love throughout the entire process. The drama is currently airing on the local Hunan channel.
Produced by Hawick Lau, the series tells of the story of an engagement between the two united in revenge against the male lead's illegitimate sister, who also just stole the female lead's fiancé. The drama is a big recommend for the leads and their great outfits, but would've been much better if they had better lighting and camera.
- Insiders Estimate Sephora Pulls In $500 Million a Year From China
French beauty brand Sephora, child company of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, recently celebrated the opening of its largest store in Asia. Encompassing 54,000 square feet and five floors, the Shanghai Xiangyang flagship on Nanjing Road boasts two levels of retail space, a training academy, and two floors for Sephora China's new corporate headquarters.
"I think we've only fulfilled a small fraction of what's possible in this market. We are quite inspired by the huge passion of the Chinese woman to learn about beauty, be it skin care, makeup or fragrances," said Chris de Lapuente, Sephora's global CEO.
Though he was mum on figures, de Lapuente alluded to strong double-digit growth. Industry insiders estimate that Sephora sees $500 million annually pouring in from China.
One of the brand's largest goals is to increasingly educate Chinese women about color cosmetics and fragrances, items that were banned for most of the 20th century, during Mao Zedong's communist reign and the Cultural Revolution.
Today, skincare and haircare are still the leading categories for Chinese buyers. But at the Shanghai flagship, iPads with special interactive apps are placed strategically on a counter, allowing shoppers to answer a questionnaire and be directed to fragrances that may be of interest to them based on their needs and preferences.
The store on Nanjing Road stocks 17 Asian brands, 3 of which are Chinese. The most popular may be Shanghai Jahwa's Herborist. In addition to being very popular among consumers, Herborist owns a 19 percent stake in Sephora's China operations. Taiwan's For Beloved One, Korea's Erborian, and Japan's Lunasol/SK-II are also on the shelves.
The new Shanghai store is the 135th since Sephora entered the Chinese market. The brand can be found in 47 cities throughout China. Sephora expects to keep pace with its 2012 store openings, continuing with about 25 per year in China, with many of them targeted at second- and third-tier cities to offset the minor slowdown in Shanghai and Beijing.
"We've got the core markets where there are still a lot of opportunities, we've got the newer markets that are moving out of an investment phase and are now bearing fruits and we have a whole group of more recent markets," the CEO said, "We are in 30 countries now, I have a dream to be in significantly more countries in the world and as markets like China do well it gives us confidence that the Sephora model can work in more parts of the world."
The Shanghai flagship is expected to be one of the top 10 Sephora stores worldwide, with the Champs-Elysées superstore in Paris leading the pack in terms of sales volume. Various locations in New York and the flagship in Brazil fill the rest of the ranks. De Lapuente states, however, that the brand also wants to grow its 30 percent market share in France, open more stores in the U.S., and consolidate strong growth in markets like Russia and the Middle East, where Sephora has been for more than five years.

Sparks flew when Shawn Yue directed Kary Ng for her music video last year. (image source: on.cc)
As Hong Kong stars Shawn Yue and Kary Ng are outed as a couple following a photo leak showing the pair enjoying a sweet vacation in Britain recently, their fans are not too happy, judging by the online war of words that followed.
The romance, marked as one of the Hong Kong papparazzi's first surprise discoveries in 2013, have left fans divided. While some sent their blessings to the good-looking pair, many were heartbroken to learn of the relationship. Weibo and Instagram had quickly become a platform for Shawn's female fans to launch an online assault on Kary, calling the singer-actress "ugly" and accusing her of having had plastic surgery before.
"You (Kary) look like an auntie besides Shawn. I can't accept this," wrote one fan, with another going as far to wish Shawn was gay instead.
Fans of Kary were quick to defend their idol, asking her not to date Shawn, whom they described as "irresponsible".
Still, the rumoured lovebirds remained unfazed and continued to enjoy their trip, with Shawn posting a photo of Hyde Park yesterday.
The Hong Kong media first got wind of the romance when a Hong Kong tourist took a picture of the two arriving together at London's Heathrow Airport. The tourist, who took and uploaded the picture on Weibo, said she only recognised Shawn at first but later identified Kary as the hunky actor's companion.

She was not the only one who spotted the stars at the airport. Another fan managed to take a photo with Kary and uploaded it onto Instagram in no time. The singer, who was wearing spectacles, looked like she was in a great mood.
As their love affair got exposed, their management stayed mum, with Shawn's assistant claiming that he has no knowledge of the actor's whereabouts.
Both stars were noted for their colourful love lives marked with romances with fellow celebrities: Among the conquests of 31-year-old Shawn were pretty Cantopop stars like Emme Wong and Twins' Gillian Chung. On the other hand, Kary, a wealthy girl who joined the Hong Kong showbiz as part of popular Cantopop girl group Cookies, had her fair share of suitors, which included Shawn's buddy Pakho Chau.
In recent years, the 26-year-old starlet has been in an on-and-off relationship with Hong Kong tennis star player Brian Lap, until she announced that she was single again, last month.
It was reported that love started blossoming between her and Shawn, when the latter directed a music video starring Kary and Taiwanese heartthrob Tony Yang, last October.
They started dating in secret and had been inseparable since, with Shawn bringing his latest squeeze to gatherings with friends. On Valentine's Day, Kary reportedly joined Shawn to check out a property in Stanley, Hong Kong, that he was interested in.
Later, she showed off a bouquet of flowers she received, on Weibo, sparking speculation that it was from Shawn.

- Gillian Chung's phone snatched in Vietnam
What started as a sweet Valentine's Day vacation for Gillian Chung and her Korean boyfriend (known only as Mr. K) was marred when they got a first taste of the notorious street robbers that are now terrorising Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam.
The couple, who spent their first Valentine's Day together in the Southeast Asian country recently, fell prey to the notorious motorbike robbers who are known for snatching possessions of tourists.
"I was looking up an address with my phone, when the robber, riding on an electric bicycle, appeared out of nowhere and snatched my phone," recalled Gillian, 32, fearfully, adding that she remained traumatised for days.

Luckily for Gillian, there was no embarrassing picture in the phone. Her biggest loss? "All my game records are gone!" she said.
She ended up relying on the iPad Mini she gave to her boyfriend as a Valentine's Day present for the remaining days of the trip. Following the incidenct, her plans of meeting up with her close friend, fellow singer Angela Chang—who was also vacationing in Vietnam with Wu Tsing-Fong, frontman of Taiwanese indie band Sodagreen—also fell apart.
"I was there with my boyfriend and we planned to meet up with Angela, but my phone was snatched soon after," she said.
