Hong Kong's Emperor Motion Pictures is joining the rush of Ip Man biopics set to arrive on screens in the next year.
At the upcoming American Film market EMP is unveiling the Herman Yau-directed Ip Man — The Final Fight.
Starring as the legendary martial arts teacher Ip Man is Anthony Wong, while Eric Tsang is set to play the grandmaster of the White Crane style who transitions from Ip's rival to best friend (pictured). Other roles are played by Gillian Chung, Marvel Chow and action director/actor Xiong Xinxin (The Musketeers). Grandmaster Ip Chun, Ip's son, has a cameo role.
The film is lent martial arts authenticity being bankrolled by National Arts Film Production Limited, produced by Sin Kwok-lam, vice chairman of the World Wing Chun Union.
Yau previously directed 2010's The Legend is Born – Ip Man, which chronicled an earlier passage in Ip's life.
"We're thrilled to have been able to get such a stellar cast who are respected martial artists in their respective disciplines. Audiences will find their combination of skills add a new level of authenticity to the tale of Grandmaster Ip," said Albert Lee, CEO of EMP.
Other projects revisiting the Ip Man story include Wong Kar-wai's The Grandmasters, which is set for a December release, and Pegasus Motion Pictures' Ip Man 3D, the third instalment in Wilson Yip's highly successful trilogy with Donnie Yen in the starring role.
