Beijing festival to offer awards

The Beijing International Film Festival is to become a competitive event in 2013, its third year of activity.
The festival, scheduled for 16-23 April, will give out awards in ten categories from best film through to best visual effects, according to reports in official newspaper The People's Daily.
Named The Temple Of Heaven awards, reflecting one of the city's most dramatic ancient monuments (pictured), the prizes will be presented on the festival's closing night.
Though it has included film rights and project markets and put on industry-related seminars, the Beijing festival is so far better known for its high profile events and international visitors rather than its film selection or engagement with the film-going public.
