'Brave' earns top box-office spot
Released through Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios, Brave joins other big profit classics like Toy Story and Wall-E. Including the $13.5 million from overseas markets, Brave has started off by bringing in $80.2 million.
Featuring a fiery Scottish princess, the movie is the first Pixar film to feature a female protagonist. The movie cost $185 million to make and has earned marginal reviews from critics but has become a fan favorite, according to EW.
Ever since the 1995 release of Toy Story, Pixar has enjoyed a streak of their movies debuting at No. 1. Brave is the 13th Pixar movie in row to open on top of the box-office.
“Their track record is just unbelievable," said box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian, according to The Associated Press. "The Pixar brand just carries so much weight with the audience, it doesn't matter almost what the story is about if it has the Pixar name."
Brave beat out Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter who came in at No. 2 and No. 3 respectfully.
