  • Lau Ching Wan jokes about his best actor odds
Lau Ching Wan yesterday attended an adidas new product event and received a set of couple running shoes. Ching Wan said that he had an exercise habit as he and wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming would run or talk walks. Did they constantly have autograph seekers? He humorously replied, "Not for autographs, they would take photos with their phones. Thus the running posture has to be cooler, I can't be out of breath." Ching Wan said that now Hong Kongers love to exercise. He has seen people running in leather shoes and jeans. Life in the city was very tense and exercise could relieve stress. He said that sometimes pressure was inevitable on movie productions. When he was upset or unhappy he would not drink. The best way was to exercise or read newspaper to avoid it. Would he consider making more comedy to reduce stress? He joked that the pressure of making a comedy was even greater, because if he could not make viewers laugh he failed. Ching Wan revealed that today he would head to Thailand to continue work on the police film SO DUK (DRUG SWEEP) with Louis Koo Tin Lok and Nick Cheung Ka Fai. He will have action scenes. "Goo Jai and Ka Fai would go swimming or sunbathing when they don't have to work. They are very healthy." Nominated for Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor with THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN), Ching Wan said that now he would cherish the opportunity as nothing was certain. Winning the award was not a decision for him to make. Who was his favorite? Ching Wan joked, "I heard it won't be me, it will be someone with the last name Leung or the name Ka Fai. He may not have to be (Tony) Leung Ka Fai, as we still have (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai and Cheung Ka Fai." Reportedly Nicholas Tse Ting Fung was not nominated because of him. Ching Wan denied the rumor. "Don't say that, Ting Fung's performance is very outstanding. I have to clarify, it's not my fault." Source: On.cc Translated by: hktopten
  • Chapman To thinks Elanne Kong deserves to win best actress
The 19th Hong Kong Film Critic Society award earlier announced its award winners and the presentation was held yesterday. MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU) won Best Picture, MOTORWAY's Soi Cheang Pou Soi and THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN)'s Dante Lam Chiu Yin split Best Director, ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II)'s Wai Ka Fai, Yau Nai Hoi, Chan Wai Bun and Au Man Kit won Best Screenplay, DIVA's Chapman To Man Jat won Best Actor and for the first time no one won Best Actress. He also hoped to continue the serendipity. He said, "I used to want to an award very much and make literary drama like other people. I finally realized that everything should come from the heart. This time I worked behind the scene and I won an award, from now on I would service the film industry in peace." He felt that awards were fated, he would be at ease with the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor nomination. To Man Jat praised Lam Yun Tung's acting potential, Joey's home was filled with awards so a film award would not be too meaningful to her. Viewers only had to know that she knew how to act. He thought Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam deserved to win Best Actress with LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI). "Kong Yeuk Lam's performance was very touching, but her Hong Kong Film Award nomination is already a recognition; some said that she was a surprise, I say she is the favorite!" He felt that the lack of Best Actress winner was alarming, the industry should make more woman films. Speaking of director Pang Ho Cheung winning an award despite criticism against VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET), To Man Jat said, "It proves that new directors have to be mischievous to succeed, they don't need to mind what old people think." As for his former company ATV banned him, To Man Jat joked, "How much rate does ATV get, how much influence does it have on me? Zero rating means zero influence on me." Kong Yeuk Lam thanked To Man Jat's support and hoped to have even more chances to make movies. President Chan Chi Wa stressed that the lack of a Best Actress winner did not represent any criticism against actresses. During the discussion ROMANCING IN THIN AIR's Sammi Cheng Sau Man and LOVE LIFTING's Kong Yeuk Lam had positive reviews, only the 20 or so jury members had difference of opinion. In the future they would review their system. Source: On.cc Translated by: hktopten
  • Simon Yam lies on the ground to direct his first film
Simon Yam Tat Wa recently was busy with his directing debut. Earlier Brother Wa led 50 workers to shoot a car chase by Quarry Bay. Although he was not in the scene, he still personally demonstrated in order to achieve the best result. During the shoot he even sat on the ground, held a camera and took pictures. He did everything himself, no wonder before the shoot he announced that this time he was the chore boy. This time Yam Tat Wa directed for the first time. Earlier he revealed that for this trilogy ghost film he would direct, star and be the second assistant photographer. He joked that he was a chore boy, but Brother Wa truly was not your ordinary gold label chore boy. Earlier with around 50 workers Brother Wa worked at Quarry Bay, blocked off a street for a car crash scene. Aside from the crew extras were also present. The car crash lead Jonathan Wong Chee Hynn and another man played uniformed police officers. Brother Wa was not in the scene but because the story needed Wong Chee Hynn to suddenly faint when he reached the front of the car, Brother Wa lay down on the ground to demonstrate what the shot needed. Even for a very simple shot he was very serious. The first time director did not slack off at all. Wong Chee Hynn fell down for ten times or more, as Brother Wa was very demanding. Wong Chee Hynn very happily complied. He kept falling down until Brother Wa was satisfied. Brother Wa this time used two cameras, a professional film camera and a high definition video camera, to shoot from different angles simultaneously. Brother Wa not only commanded from behind the cameras but also picked up a long lens camera to personally shoot. He did not mind to sit on the ground and shoot. Indeed he was both a director and a photographer, thoroughly display his gold label chore boy nature. Source: Singtao Translated by: hktopten

  • Nicholas Tse publicly defends Cecilia Cheung

The actor was quizzed on his ex-wife after bagging an award at the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers' Spring Dinner

Despite their very public divorce, it seems that ex-power couple Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung are still on good terms, as the actor spoke up for his ex-wife in front of reporters last night.

The 32-year-old graced the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers' Spring Dinner with his father Patrick Tse, where the younger Tse bagged the prestigious '˜2012 Most Charismatic Male Actor Award'. Thanking the behind-the-scenes crew for his award, he humbly added that directors and camera crew's contributions to making quality films were more important than his.
He is reportedly slated to start work on a Wong Jing film, which will also star Chow Yun Fat. Due to changes in the script, the crew is said to be waiting for the green light before filming begins.
Taking the chance during the Lunar New Year period to spend time with his young sons, Lucas and Quintus, Nicholas joked that he put on weight due to his lack of a work schedule. On the other hand, Cecilia was blasted as having no film offers, resulting in her accepting more variety show gigs in order to maintain her popularity. He retorted, '(This is) crazy. I'm the one with nothing to do; she has plenty of work!'
As to whether he is looking to find love once again, the actor mused, 'If I say that I'm not, there really won't be any (opportunities), so I'll say that I'm open to (love) anytime.'

  • Fiona Sit's "Leaving Me" is out
The best-selling queen of singles is back in the game! Hong Kong singer-actress Fiona Sit has finally released the music video for the latest single "Leaving Me", which was released online on 26 February 2013.

According to Jayne Stars, "Leaving Me" premiered on YouTube a few hours after the single's online launch. The music video is directed by Taiwanese art director Jude Chen and composed by her boyfriend Khalil Fong, who is a successful musician in his own right. The lyrics are penned by Jackson Lam.

The ballad is about a girl's fear of confessing to someone that she likes, because there is a possibility of being rejected, represented here as a accepting a "goodbye flower," which means a relationship that never began. According to Fiona, the lyrics are a reflection of herself.
The music video itself is shot in slow-motion, with purple and pink gradients. Fiona joked that it was hard to film a slow-motion video, as she has to maintain her attractive facial expressions throughout the prolonged shoot.
"There was one scene in which I opened a champagne bottle, and I didn't have enough strength to pop it. The camera caught a very unattractive face of me trying to pry it open, so that simple scene took many champagne bottles to do right!"
"Leaving Me" is the second single of 2013, with the first being "Cold Joke", which went on to become a huge hit in the Hong Kong music charts. It is also her second musical release after signing with her new label and management, Sun Entertainment, in late 2012.

  • Bosco and Myolie ignore each other
It has been nearly nine months since they broke up and it seems that Bosco Wong and Myolie Wu still can't stand to be near each other.

As reported on Popular Asians website, the former celebrity couple were at a mainland China event recently to promote their new dramas – Myolie Wu's "Wine Beauty" and Bosco Wong's "Young Sherlock".

It was the second time they appeared on the same stage albeit at different intervals since the first at the 45th TVB Anniversary Awards. However, both stars were still treating each other like strangers.
Attending the press conference for mainland drama, "Wine Beauty", Myolie talked about her role as a red wine company heiress. The actress was in luck, as the paparazzi were more attuned to her co-star, Roy Chiu, who just recently broke up with actress girlfriend, Tiffany Tang.
Meanwhile, Bosco appeared on stage with co-star, Stephy Chi, to promote their new drama, "Young Sherlock". Asked about his relationship rumour with Stephy, the actor dismissed it as fabricated and stated that he treated the news as promotion for their drama.
After the event, Bosco was asked if he felt embarrassed to run into Myolie. The actor, however, expressed, "We didn't share the stage. There were no feelings of awkwardness or lack of. We didn't even greet each other backstage. There was no time to say hello since it was a rush."

After the success of his debut production, "Sheng Xia Wan Qing Tian", Hawick Lau will next be preparing for his sophomore production, "Heading North".

Jayne Stars website reported that the 38-year-old actor will not only produce, but also star in the romance drama. In "Heading North" - to be helmed by "Sheng Xia Wan Qing Tian" director Mak Koon Chi, Hawick plays the cold-blooded Lu Xiangbei (North), a character that is the opposite of his playboy character in the previous drama.

The actor-turned-producer revealed, "My new drama's script is currently undergoing its fourth revision but everything is almost settled and done. The script is the only thing that is on my crew's mind right now. We have been discussing it every single day, and we really hope to add some new subject matters to the story."
Asked about his views on the character Lu Xiangbei, Hawick expressed, "I've never approached a role like this before. I am very surprised that the scriptwriters decided to give this role to me. The character itself gives more life and excitement to the script."

  • Mimi Lo dissatisfied with TVB
TVB may be more than eager to renew their contract with Power Chan, but unfortunately for his wife Mimi Lo, that feeling is not extended to her.

According to Jayne Stars, the 38-year old actress has yet to be contacted by TVB despite that her contract is almost over. Feeling disappointed with their treatment of her after working for them for 13 years, Mimi said, "The funny thing is, TVB says I owe them show debts, and yet they don't give me opportunities to work. I gave my youth to TVB, and what is the result?"

In November last year, when Mimi was pregnant with her baby daughter, she had to take on less strenuous jobs, appearing in variety shows instead of dramas. However, after she gave birth, she contacted the company to ask if there were any jobs, but they told her there was nothing suitable.
"However, within a month, I received a call saying, 'You owe the company over a hundred show debts, so quickly get back to work!" It's so unreasonable. It's not that I'm not willing to work. In fact, I can take on any job. Even acting as a passer-by is fine too. I was always on standby, but they didn't contact me at all. Now that my contract is almost over, they're saying that I owe them?" said Mimi.
There are conflicting reports that the actress' initial statement about TVB has been distorted, as Mimi has posted on her Weibo that her words have been distorted by Sudden Weekly's publication.
When asked about his wife's issue, Power exclaimed, "Mimi does not have enough show debts to pay back TVB. I think the system needs to be adjusted. It's not that she doesn't want to accept jobs, but because the producers haven't been contacting her. It's not fair if they keep demanding the show debts."
Currently, Mimi is hosting the variety shows "The Green Room" and "Pleasure & Leisure".

  • Lee Heung Kam loses mobility
81-year-old actress Lee Heung Kam has been having a tough time since suffering from multiple home accidents that rendered her legs weak.

Popular Asians website reported that the veteran singer-actress, who had always been known for her vigour and youthful attitude, fell down at home three separate times, sustaining minor bone fractures in her waist and thighs. Although not severe, she was unable to use too much strength on her legs due to her age.

Although Lee Heung Kam is now released from the hospital, she has to report to her doctor every week for physical therapy, and relies on a wheelchair and her male domestic helper to carry her to the hospital bed.
The "Can't Buy Me Love" actress is also reportedly suffering from memory loss due to aging, making it hard for the actress to memorise scripts. Luckily, her son-in-law, Fu Yum Chor, is a doctor, and has willingly forked over HKD1 million for her treatment.
Her last television work before her therapy was a 2012 Snickers commercial that involved her playing association football with a group of high school kids.

When G.E.M. accepted the award, Maria Cordero praised her as the "most politic female singer". She said, "When I first got into the business many people treated me like a little sister. Now I am all grown up, I have to take care of people around me."
The Miriam Yeung Chin Wa starred LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) won the "Most Recommended Film of the Year". She believed that they would have a chance to make a third installment. Would she have to give her "Cherie" character to Kary Ng Yu Fei? Chin Wa joked, "My company invests in the company, of course it will be me! Maybe we will make another movie for her and Yue Man Lok." Pang Ho Cheung did not have whether a third installment will be made yet, but she really would like to work with Chin Wa and Lok Jai again. However lately Lok Jai has been very busy and has not responded to his text messages.

  • Chapman To lowers price on slamming him

The Chapman To Man Jat starred VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) because of the Hong Kong Art Development Council critci award gold prize winning article that accused it of triggering Chin and Hong Kong conflict is hot again. Cable, which purchased the film's broadcast rights, also took advantage of the situation with a writing contest. The winner will receive 50,000, but not in Hong Kong dollar but in South Korean Won (around HK$356). Its sense of humor truly explosive! Ah Jat was asked if Cable's offer was too low. "I can't say that, ultimately it is a type of encouragement. I don't mind, you can write about me however you want, the most important is the freedom of speech."

Yesterday Ah Jat and director Pang Ho Cheung continued to show the film's audience their appreciation at the charity screening. Pang Ho Cheung upon arrival immediately showed his funny side and said to viewers who was watching VULGARIA for the first time, "Thank you for losing your virginity!" VULGARIA is still quite a draw, a viewer said that this was already the eighth viewing! Although the film was popular, Ah Jat and Pang Ho Cheung said that no more show should be added.
Speaking of the Art Development Council critc award winning article that slammed VULGARIA, Ah Jat said, "I feel that Hong Kongers try to coordinate with a lot, they don't blindly discriminate. I haven't read the article, but I feel it has already harmed Hong Kongers!" He also said that because Hong Kong needs comedy now, VULGARIA returned for an engagement. He said, "If we can make it in time I would release a new film too! If not then I would bring back last year's successful comedy for the social atmosphere to be more harmonious!"

  • Joey Yung Performs on 10 Meter High Platform, No Shaky Legs
The giant pop stars Leon Lai, Joey Yung, Bibi Zhou and Liu Xian gathered together for an one night show City of Dreams Viva Fiesta at Dancing Water in Macau. The group performed at the House of Dancing Waters, all the hard-to-get 2000 seats were filled completely. Joey appeared performing in a green colored long dress and standing on a 10 meter high platform. She did not look frightened at all. The even organizers arranged several handsome male dancers around her. Then Joey made herself look like the Goddess of Ice & Snow and continued performing 3 other songs. Fans shouted in excitement for an encore.
Joey did not take any safety precautions when she performed on the 10 meter high platform. She later expressed in an interview that she was a little shaky: "There were wires on me, just depended on the two handsome guys to protect me." Joey laughed and said she prepared her 'secret weapon' for this performance: "I purposely wore thick heels, although it was 6 inches high, I'm experienced and won't have shaky legs."
This time Joey had the honor to encounter Gold Mentalist athletes, she excitedly said: "Athletes are the 'living creatures' I respect the most. I mean, animals...no I mean humans." She revealed she plans to a New Year's Eve concert at the end of the year and will take the opportunity to learn from the athletes: "I won't be able to learn their skills, but I can take some inspirations from them!" When reporters teased she wore her boyfriend Wilfred Lau's favorite color green, Joey smiled pleasantly: "Oh yeah!" Her assistant added: "I chose the outfit for her."
  • Raymond Lam Regards Karena Ng as Family & Marriage Partner
Yesterday Raymond Lam attended the autograph session for his A Time 4 You album. He arrived at the event on time and it seems like he's changing the bad habit! When asked if he's listening to his girlfriend Karena Ng and finally changing the bad habit? He laughed: "I've always been changing, actually I'm not that serious! (Influenced by Karena BB?) Well, when two people are together, mutual influence is a good thing."
When speaking of Karena mentioning earlier that she likes to call Raymond by his birth name "Ah Man" (Lam Wui Man), reporters were curious and asked whether they could call him Ah Man too? Raymond blurted out: "Only my family calls me by that name." Asked if Karena is family? He smiled sweetly and nodded. Asked whether they slept on the same bed on their vacations and were they afraid of an "accident"? He expressed he does not want to comment on his personal life. As Raymond was speaking, he had a head full of sweat, but he immediately explained: "It is not because of the questions you are asking, I just finished dancing." Asked if Raymond sees Karena as someone he would marry? He frankly expressed "Yes."
Regarding the rumor that Raymond is too into his dating life and has been turning away jobs just because he wants to go the vacations with Karena, Raymond explained he didn't know about the film promotion schedule and he'll be heading to Beijing tomorrow to promote for his new film Saving General Yang.
