  • British 3D sci-fi action movie "Dredd", directed by Pete Travis, premiered in China on Thursday, hoping to win Chinese hearts.

The film is written and produced by Alex Garland and is based on the British comic "2000 AD" comic strip "Judge Dredd." Dredd (Karl Urban) is one of the judges who are law enforcers given the power to judge and execute in the huge, dystopian metropolis called Mega-City One, situated in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Dredd and his rookie sidekick, Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), are forced to bring order to a 200-level high-rise block of flats and deal with its resident drug lord, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey).
An adaptation of the comic strip was earlier released in 1995, directed by Danny Cannon, and starred Sylvester Stallone. It was, however, a critical and commercial disappointment.
The new "Dredd" tells another story about the character and is more violent, realistic and vivid thanks to the use of advanced 3D technology. It is a decent but mindless action movie that may well please Chinese audiences. With a US$45 million production budget, the film was shot digitally and primarily in 3D using RED MX, SI2K and Phantom Flex high-speed cameras.
In regards to those scenes conveying the Slo-Mo time and space altering effects, images were created to be either beautiful or disorienting, similar to the "Matrix" trilogy's "Bullet Time" special effects. The film also carries some B-movie-styled bloody scenes. For the Chinese version however, many of these were deleted.
The film has gained a 77 percent approval rating from 141 critics on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, which read, "Fueled by bombastic violence and impressive special effects, rooted in self-satire and deadpan humor, 'Dredd' is a rare example of a remake that actually works." Nevertheless, despite the positive critical response, the film only made US$36 million at box offices worldwide and with that was considered a flop.
"Dredd" hits Chinese screens nationwide on Friday, competing with Academy Awards-winning musical "Les Miserables," which opened on Thursday and Stephen Chow's Spring Festival blockbuster "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons," which is still hot and happening and breaking records after the holiday season.

Backstage, we weren't in the same makeup room either, so haven't met her. (Coming out one after the other!) We're in different series, why would we be on the stage together? (Meet in private backstage?) Nope, once this is over I'm flying back to Hengdian! (A pity?) Just work, no problem. (Do you still keep in touch with Myolie?) Not recently, we're busy with our own things!"

Back in HK, the two take time off to celebrate Valentine's Day. Raymond loves Karena BB and seems very into the relationship.

After the bar, the couple wanted more and went for karoke with their friends. Karena took her company's car to the karaoke, while Raymond just followed behind in a taxi. Looks like Raymond put down his 'Young Pop King' role and stuck to his girlfriend like glue. The group played until 3am, most friends already left, but the couple continued playing hard until 4am. Karena left first with her manager and company boss. The couple played for a full 4 hours before going home.

He was able to take care of her (Karena) and still pass me some food. (What do you think of your 'Ah So'?) She's pretty good! The most important is he likes her."
  • Ron Ng: I'm Not the Third Party
33 year old TVB Siu Sang Ron Ng was working in Mainland before and had rumors with his 29 year old co-star Tiffany Tang while shooting The Cubicle Woman. Although Tiffany is already dating 31 year old hot Taiwanese actor Roy Qiu, Ron still praised her strongly, which led to rumors that he's the third party in their relationship.
At the time, Ron used Roy as his shield to deny the rumors he had with Tiffany. A month later, Roy personally admitted he and Tiffany are broken up at an event yesterday. However, he did not disclose the reason of the break up. Roy just said: "Relationships are very personal. We are back to being friends now and I think that is better. Thank you all." Unfortunately, this break up left a burden on Ron as the 'third party'.
Yesterday Ron accepted a telephone interview and was shocked to learned the two broke up. "They broke up? I didn't know. I am absolutely not the third party because I already knew she had a boyfriend when we were filming the series. We didn't really talk about our personal lives while at work. All we talked about were jokes and didn't even have the chance to eat together because she usually goes home after work. I would follow the crew back to the hotel."
A Pretty, Sweet & Optimistic Girl
Ron praised Tiffany is a pretty and sweet girl. She has an optimistic personality, but he put the 'road block' up and said there is no chance for them to develop a relationship. He said: "We don't have that type of feeling. We're just friends. If anything were to happen, it would have already happened. I don't have her phone number and it wasn't until after the series ended that we exchanged Weibo. We SMS two times, but it was just normal talk. (Will check to see if she's ok?) Not necessary, maybe she already has a new love interest?"
Ron expressed he is still single and is currently busy shooting series in Mainland. He said it's not easy to find a partner nor does he have time to communicate with them. He said: "I don't e! ven have the time to be with my family, how can I have time to find a girlfriend?"

First, Raymond has his new girlfriend Karena Ng; Kenneth Ma is rumored with Eliza Sam, Myoile Wu, Rebecca Zhu and Natalie Tong; The single Bosco is also not lonely, he has Mainland actress Stephy Qi. The majority of them aren't true."
  • Brigitte Lin Ching Hsia: Bathing Beauty
I am sure these images are all over the web and may have been seen by everyone but me. I find them quite striking--although that covers just about any picture of Brigitte Lin. They seem to be taken from some vintage magazines and even a calendar; many are not reproduced well nor, one assumes, can they be.

This looks like a bunch of her magazine covers, badly laid out and cut off by the photographer:

She was (and remains and always will be) a knockout--simply gorgeous:

  • Lovely retro pictures of Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk and Leslie Cheung
Sina found and published some delightful and even a bit heart wrenching pictures of Maggie Cheung and Leslie Cheung with a few friends. They look like candid snaps of them, very informal, just relaxing together. À la recherche du temps perdu.
