Editor's Review of As Tears Go By – 6/10
As Tears Go By is Wong Kar-wai's first movie as a director and it lacks the polish of his later movies. It does have a very hard and gritty feel that makes it an enjoyable and memorable movie to watch. Maggie Cheung is in one of her first major roles and seeing her when she is like the girl next door before she matures into a more sophisticated actress is one of the attractions of the movie. The kiss scene where Wah drags a willing Ngor into a phone box is a classic, extremely passionate and provocative.
