Gong Li

Gong Li is a Singaporean actress, born December 31, 1965 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China.

BIOGRAPHY:

youngest in a family of five children, she grew up in Jinan, capital of Shandong Province. In 1985, she was admitted to the Academy of Drama in Beijing. She was married to a businessman from the city-state Ooi Hoe Seong in 1996 until their divorce in 2010. November 8, 2008, Gong Li becomes a citizen of Singapore, abandoning his Chinese nationality.

Since October 16, 2000, Gong Li as Goodwill Ambassador of FAO.

acting career:

Former director Zhang Yimou's mistress and muse of cinema Chinese dissident, she appeared in several of his films until 1995, when their separation.

Red Sorghum was his first role in 1988 film that won a Golden Bear in Zhang Yimou. First film in a long collaboration, they jointly attended Judou (1990), Raise the Red Lantern (1991), Qiu Ju, a Chinese woman (1992), Living (1994) and Shanghai Triad in 1995.

Gong Li also participated in numerous films from Chen Kaige, Farewell My Concubine as (1993), Golden Palm at Cannes and The Emperor and the Assassin (1999). It has also involved many American films, as Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), Miami Vice: Miami Vice (2006) and Hannibal Lecter (2007).

It reappears in a film by Zhang Yimou, The Forbidden City , in 2007, where her cleavage push-up has created much controversy in China. Unanimously critically acclaimed, she plays a woman injured and oppressed, imprisoned in this narrow straitjacket of rules of the city, both victim and executioner.
