ChinaJoy 2012: Sony’s Kazunori Yamauchi Is Hard at Work on Gran Turismo 6

Sony Computer Entertainment made the trek to China Joy in Beijing to promote Gran Turismo 5 with Chinese gamers. Polyphony Digital President Kazunori Yamauchi was on hand to sign autographs and discuss the franchise with media. The conversation turned to Gran Turismo 6 and Gran Turismo Vita. Yamauchi talks about the present and future of the GT franchise in the exclusive video interview below.

At China Joy, the game maker said his team began working on the framework of Gran Turismo 6 right after GT5 was completed. "We're always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression," he said.

Yamauchi also was asked about the rumored Gran Turismo PS Vita game, which could debut as early as Gamescom 2012. "If we were to make it, we'd like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time," he said.

While in China, Yamauchi took time out to check out the Shanghai Circuit, which potentially could be featured in GT6.

The racing fan is still looking at ways to expand the bestselling GT5 game experience. He was asked about adding the ability for players to MOD the game, to which he replied, “If we can find a good balance, we'd like to increase the areas where users can make modifications.”
