Images of old soldiers honored at photo awards
Images of old soldiers have been awarded for their excellence at the 8th China International Press Photo Contest on March 25, 2012. The awards featured some old Red Army or People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers from Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, who joined many battles for the Communist Party of China from 1920s to 1950s. They are all now live at the Bayi Home for the elderly in Yan’an, Shaanxi.
Wang Shenggui, born1925, Ansai town, joined the Northwest Field Army, PLA’s main force during War of Liberation (1946-1949) in 1947. He retired from the army in 1951 due to injuries.

Li Jianye, born 1923, Guan town, joined a local guerrilla unit in 1948. He was later sent to the Northwest Field Army, working for logistic services. He retired in 1957.
He Jiuzhong, born1930, Pingdou village, Gelou town, joined the PLA in 1948 for security work. He retired in 1954.
Sun Shuanhu, Shenjiao village, Zhuniu county, joined the PLA in 1947 and retired in 1956.
Female Wang Ling, born1929, Jiaodao town, joined the Red Army in 1941 as a nurse and later a field nurse. She retired in 1955.
Li Xingjun, born1918, Feng Jiaping village, Yanchuan county, joined the Red Army in 1935 and retired in 1942.
