IWC Schaffhausen Hosts Filmmakers Dinner in Cannes

A trove of stars descended upon the legendary Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cannes, as IWC Schaffhausen partners Cinch's Quarterly Review in hosting a Filmmakers Dinner along the French Riveria.

The dinner follows previous partnerships with film directors, producers and actors.

Georges Kern, CEO of IWC said: "For years now we have had a passion for film and film-making. We are happy to celebrate it here in Cannes with other like-minded individ-uals and friends of the IWC brand."

"Every director tells a story with his films. At IWC, storytelling is the basis or, to be more precise, part of the DNA of everything we do," he adds.

Terry Gilliam, the American-born British screenwriter, film animator, actor and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, was presented with the prestigious Finch's Quarterly Filmmaker Award, alongside an IWC watch.

Commenting on the decision, Charles Finch explained: "For years, Terry Gilliam has given us endless demonstrations of his extraordinary talent for film-making, both behind and in front of the camera. It is an enormous pleasure for me to present him with this award,"

The high-calibre guest list included Robert de Niro, Ewan McGregor, Karolina Kurkova, Eric Dane, Paulo Coelho, Tim Jefferies and soul singer Aloe Blacc, who jetted in as the evening's musical highlight.

Back to Vinyl: Modern Record Console by Symbol Audio

Taking cue from the 'all in one' console hifi's of the 1950s, Symbol Audio has launched the ultra-swank Modern Record Console.

Bound to become a conversation piece in the centre of your home, the design is a blend of old-school and contemporary flair. The console shell, decked out in American walnut wood, is anchored by a sculpted chunk of ¼-inch plate steel.

On the technical front, Symbol Audio has enlisted the help of a group of experienced audio engines. The custom designed hand-wire tube amplifer has the ability to push 15W to the two 6.5'' full range speakers, while the turntable has a carbon fiber tonearm and is outfitted with a Sumiko Blue Point #2 cartridge for playing vinyl. Other features include a – tucked out of view into the steel table - second amplifer and subwoofer. The advanced engine also comes with built-in Wi-Fi for streaming music from an iPhone, iPad, iPad or computer.

The speaker fronts are available in a trio of three accents, glacier white, slate grey and jet black

Glashutte Original Unveils Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon in HK

Last week, Glashutte Original held a 4-day exhibition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to mark the launch of their most sophisticated timepiece to date, the Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon.

Specially catered towards frequent fliers, the Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon allows the wearer to track the time of day or night at home and on the road simultaneously, in any two of 37 world time zones.

The time zones are indicated by way of three-letter IATA codes (e.g. FRA for Frankfurt am Main, LAX for Los Angeles International) and are displayed in two small windows at 8 o'clock on the dial, one dedicated to Standard Time (STD), the other to Daylight Saving Time (DST). A Perpetual Calendar is geared to register changes in both directions, forwards and backwards in time. A gold-accented flying minute tourbillion - developed in 1920 by legendary watchmaker Alfred Helwig – is featured at 12 o'clock.

The exquisite set of displays are mounted on a silver-grained, 18-carat gold dial and housed within a 48mm platinum case.

Fitted with a black Louisiana alligator strap and foldover clasp in platinum, the Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon is available in a limited edition of 25 pieces worldwide. After its debut in Hong Kong, it will go on to exhibit in Beijing, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the United States and Dubai.
