Zhang Ziyi hits back at claims she slept with Bo Xilai for money

The Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi has slammed rumors claiming that she had sex with Bo Xilai, the deposed former party secretary of Chongqing, and made 700 million yuan (US$ 110 million) from sleeping with other Chinese officials. Zhang said she will seek legal action over the claims, reports our sister newspaper China Times.

A number of reports including the Taiwan edition of the Hong Kong-based newspaper Apple Daily on Monday cited a story from Boxun News, a citizen journalism site that is sourced mostly by anonymous users and frequently makes claims that are difficult to prove.

The original report from Boxun said that Xu Ming, president of the conglomerate Dalian Shide in China's northeast who has been detained due to his close ties with Bo Xilai, confessed that in 2007 he gave Zhang six million yuan (US$ 945,000) for having sex with him and that the two slept together on several subsequent occasions. In the same year, Xu said he introduced Zhang to Bo, then party head of Chongqing, with who she had sex for 10 million yuan (US$ 1.6 million). Bo had sex with Zhang more than 10 times between 2007 and 2011, Xu said.

The alleged encounters reportedly took place at a private club owned by Xu in Beijing. Over the same period, Xu is said to have also arranged for Zhang to have sex with two other senior officials. Boxun said the names of officials will be published later.

The 33-year-old, best known in the west for her roles in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Zhang Yimou's Hero and House of Flying Daggers, earned money, jewelry and properties in exchange for sex with wealthy and powerful men over a long period of time, often having relations with five or six millionaires at the same time but having only one "formal boyfriend" in public, the rumors said. In the past ten years, she is reported to have made a fortune of 700 million yuan from men with whom she slept, of which 180 million yuan (US$ 28.3 million) came from Xu.

Zhang, who is currently filming in Guangzhou, at first calmly denied the reports on her Sina Weibo microblog, saying early Tuesday morning that the production team was working hard to make artificial rain for the movie and joking that even the sky was "fabricating." "Coworkers deride the fabrication (Boxun's report) and ask 'what is the big deal'? ... It is not necessary to fabricate, just imagine anything. Frankly speaking, it is mental masturbation," Zhang posted.

The actress had taken on a tougher stance by the evening, however. In an "open letter from Zhang Ziyi's team" aimed at the Apple Daily, she took the newspaper to task and said she felt "chilled to the bone and deep sorrow" over the "slander and smears" it had published.

"We will demand justice in law. We will dig you out from your dark corner and follow up the inquiries," she added.

Rumors over Zhang's sexual life, including a possible connection with Bo Xilai, have been circulating on the internet for a long time, though they have previously not been mentioned by the official news agency Xinhua. A report by Xinhua's photography channel on Tuesday made reference to the rumors, with the implication that they are fabricated.

The actress is scheduled to attend the 12th Chinese Film Media Awards in Haikou, Hainan province on Wednesday afternoon and will expect further cross-examination from the more liberal media outlets in the south of the country.

The Bo Xilai - Zhang Ziyi Prostitution Scandal

Zhang Ziyi denies prostitution

"I wish an old heck like me can command that kind of money ... US$1.5M per session ?"
No, the above is not what she says ... It's purely artist impression.
Zhang, who is currently shooting a new film in southern China, said on her personal microblog that many people “can take wind as rain” using their imaginations.

Her statement was taken as a denial of the media allegations about the sex scandal.

No ... She NEVER deny having prostituted herself ... merely hinted some kind of "disapproval".
So, the allegation stays ... and it's still good.

U.S.-based Chinese-language news website Boxun, the Apple Daily published in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and other Chinese-language media reported that the 32-year-old actress slept with Bo at least 10 times between 2007 and 2011.

Zhang was allegedly under investigation by the Chinese government for being paid to have sex with Bo, who was removed from his powerful political position after coming under investigation after the incident involving Wang Lijung, a former Chongqing vice mayor. Wang allegedly “defected” to the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu City, of Sichuan province, in February.

The media reports said that Zhang and Bo were first introduced by Bo's associate, Xu Ming, 41, who is the founder and chairman of Dalian Shide Group when Bo was party boss in Dalian City.

Unconfirmed reports said that Xu confessed to paying Zhang 6 million Chinese yuan in 2007 to personally have sex with her for the first time.

Xu later negotiated a deal for Bo to have sex with Zhang for 10 million yuan.

The Chinese media reports estimated that Zhang's sexual transactions with various rich and powerful figures have netted her 700 million yuan over the last 10 years, including 180 million yuan in cash from Xu alone.

Her wealth accumulated from prostituting herself was not taxed mainly due to intervention from Xu and some senior Chinese government officials, said the reports.

In 2009, Zhang was accused of cheating a married businessman of a huge sum of money, with whom she was alleged to be sexually involved with, while still engaged to an Israeli billionaire.

The Chinese media also reported in April that wealthy businessman Xu introduced more than 100 women to Bo for sex and that the women included household-name celebrities.

Show business stars try to keep their faces in the media and scandals are a very efficient method of doing so. But scandals can accumulate to such an extent that they can engulf a star's career.

Zhang Ziyi, one of the most recognizable Chinese faces overseas, must be painfully aware of this. Her latest series of scandals started last December with "Ink Gate," when some people showed up at the Park Hyatt in Beijing and splashed black ink over an OMEGA ad billboard featuring Zhang.

In January, Zhao Xinyu, a former confidante, said Zhang had split up with her millionaire fiancé, Vivi Nevo. Zhang sued Zhao, and Vivi Nevo issued a statement supporting Zhang. But it is still not clear if the couple are still together.

But what got Zhang into real trouble was the Sichuan earthquake. She claimed she had donated 1 million yuan (US$146,400) to earthquake relief funds, but it turned out the real sum was 840,000 yuan (US$123,028). And the Ziyi Foundation she set up to manage the donations turned out to exist on paper only. Zhang's credibility was seriously damaged but she made no public apology. Although she later made up the shortfall, the public has not forgiven her.

Zhang recently announced she was quitting her movie project "Snow Flower and The Secret Fan" which she was supposed to co-produce and star in. The production company said her withdrawal was on health grounds, but the public put it down to her tarnished reputation.

People are wondering what Zhang is up to. Why does she keep silent? Does she not care about her image at all? Or is she cleverly manipulating the media to create a myth out of herself?

Now would be a good time for Zhang start sorting things out and mend her image. If things go on like this, her career could be completely ruined.

While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these ailments as well as curbing obesity, this text calls into question the practices of many of the current dietary programs, such as the Atkins diet, that are widely popular in the West. Mandarin Chinese the Easy Way

"China is a sickly, sleeping giant. But when she awakes, the world will tremble," so said Napoleon, as legend has it, when his top lieutenants suggested an invasion. Today, business people and politicians around the world marvel at Bonaparte's clairvoyance as they attempt to ease the concerns of their respective constituencies and confront a rising superpower that they know so little about. The trembling has most definitely begun.

Mandarin Chinese the Easy Way uses a proven system to learn the culture, 225 essential Chinese words, basic conversational sentence patterns, as well as pronunciation tips that make mastering and retaining each word simple and enjoyable.

This book responds to the desire for business people, expatriates, tourists, and travelers to learn Chinese, but lack the time to invest in the learning process. Each specific word and the total number of words were chosen intentionally, providing an achievable framework to learn the language and avoiding the inundation and overwhelming feeling most learners encounter when attempting the challenge of grasping a new language. The book uses a simple English phonetic system to say each word. For example, the word for hello is Ni Hao. In the book, it is spelled Knee How. The vocabulary section is taken one step further by providing a pronunciation pointer that will ensure you can say each word as correctly as possible. Basic grammatical structures and samples sentences are also introduced. Chapters include: making an impression; expressions guaranteed to break the ice; making a connection; asking and answering questions; and; eating, drinking and socializing.

The Table of Contents is hyperlinked, making it easy to focus on the chapters that most interest you.

The second section takes 20 important cultural elements and introduces them in one or two paragraphs, giving the traveler or business person a short synopsis of the cultural nuances and idiosyncrasies that continue to make China a mystery to! most vi sitors. Like the Table of Contents, all twenty topics are hyperlinked making navigation simple and allowing the reader to skip back-and-forth from language to culture. The 20 Topics are: Check your Assumptions; Independent vs. Interdependent; Egalitarian vs. Hierarchical; Task vs. Relationship; Networking; Confucius; Direct vs. Indirect; The Concept of Face; The Century of "National Humiliations"; Communist Party and Politics; China and Taiwan; Names and Titles; Business Card Exchange; Drinking, Toasting, and Eating; Hospitality; Gift Giving; Age, Job, and Salary; Marital Status and Kids; Do be Humble; Eating Bitterness.

Adventures of the Ping-Pong Diplomats: Volume 1: The U.S.-China Friendship Matches Change World History

Adventures of the Ping-Pong Diplomats: Volume 1: The U.S.-China Friendship Matches Change World History"This story reads like an adventure novel. The only difference is that the events in a novel are made up; these adventures really happened; the people are real; and the political effects of their actions have produced 40 years of peaceful coexistence between the Peoples Republic of China and the United States.

This is the only historically complete narrative which covers the actual ping-pong diplomacy events, provides the background foreign policy information to explain why these events happened, & shows what could have happened if there were no ping-pong diplomats.

The world news media was prevented from general coverage of the U.S. World Table Tennis Team to China, while U.S. publicity about the return visit of the Chinese World Team to the U.S. on the "Grand Tour" was largely controlled to serve the political aims and objectives of the Nixon administration.

For those average Americans who became our "Cold-War Warriors" willingly taking the risks involved, and those who worked behind the scenes to make their risks worthwhile; such experiences occur only once in a lifetime. America and the world are a lot better off because of their efforts.

It's time to read the real story of "ping-pong diplomacy!'
