Happiness Is Meeting Pearl Chang
Pearl Chang had skyrocketed to fame as the star of the Taiwanese TV series The Protectors. The show ended in June 1975, but gained a second life through syndication outside of Taiwan, where it proved just as popular. In January 1976, The Protectors started airing in Singapore. Later that year Pearl traveled there to promote the release of her film Armed Escort, which continued the adventures of the iconic character she played in The Protectors. Here's a charming piece from the July 26, 1976 edition of The Straits Times describing Pearl's meeting with some of her young fans. You can find more tidbits about Pearl's Singapore sojourn, as well as a clip from Armed Escort, over at my dedicated Pearl Chang tumblr.

Happiness is meeting TV's swordfighting girl
Little Wong Chong Kit (second from left) and his sister Chong Ying (right) know very well the formidable swordfighting heroine in their favourite television serial, The Protectors.
But yesterday, at Hotel New Hongkong, they met Miss Chang Ling, who plays the role in the serial, and were surprised to find a different side to the girl they only knew as a headstrong, temperamental and deadly opponent.
For the 21-year-old Taiwanese actress was very charming and gentle with them, telling them how she uses the sword as a weapon while letting them play with it.
Chong Kit, 10, Chong Ying, 8, and their friend, Hoo S! uyie, 7, were so delighted with not only seeing their TV idol in person but also with her speaking to them that they were quite speechless.
The threesome certainly cannot wait to return to school to tell their friends about their encounter.
Miss Chang, who recently took part in the Superstars Chinese Variety Show at the National Theatre, is here to launch a film, Armed Escort, to be shown at Golden Cinema.
Asked how she landed in show business, she said that she had been spotted by a TV film director, who persuaded her to sign a contract with Chinese Television Service.
"At that time I was still a student in college, but somehow I managed to find time in between studies to complete the shooting of The Protectors," she said. Read More @ Source
