Vivian Dawson (錦榮), a Kiwi born dude, model and boyfriend of singer Jolin Tsai (蔡依林), has had a lot of criticism for endorsing sanitary pads.

The “six figure” endorsement video clip was uploaded on August 21, but deleted on Sunday.

In the video, Vivian invites “unsuspecting passersby” on a street to reach into a pad-filled box that he holds near his crotch and have a feel.

The passersby make outlandish claims like, “Oh my god, it’s so soft!” and, “I haven’t touched anything that soft before.”

The theory is that these passersby were in fact paid actors.

Netizens criticized the company’s marketing tactics, with comments like: “Is there something wrong with them? Is there even a rock-like pad? Or do they feel something soft down there?”

They also thought the part where Vivian was seen bending down in an awkward position with the box around his crotch, suspicious, and contrived.

In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for the product confirmed the people in the video were employees and not passersby.

He also stated that the video had no other intention than to promote its product. ie. It wasn’t an advert for Vivian’s crotch.
